Justin Tallis, a press photographer and NUJ member, was forcibly removed from the protest and detained by a group of police officers. LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - 12.01.08. Brian Haw the peace campaigner before being grabbed by police outside Downing Street, Whitehall, London Saturday 12th January 2008. Mr. Haw was taking part in a protest against the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 (SOCPA) which bans spontaneous protests in a “designated area” around Parliament. Mr. Haw was snatched by police from a group of protesters outside the Downing Street gates and taken to a police van looking very alarmed and frightened. Just before Mr. Haw was grabbed he was asking the line of police officers in front of him who the senior officer was so he could report an alleged assault on him by officers early in the day.
